Professional Practice
I know that we use the term "practice" when we describe what a doctor does-"medical practice", a dentist-"dental practice", an attorney-"legal practice" and even educators-"professional practice", but I am very sad and frustrated that some of the most unprofessional practices happen on a school site.
People often consider that my role as an administrator is most difficult when I am dealing with students. I have to confess that working with students is the easiest part of my job, it's the adults that create the most challenges! Sadly, I find that the insecurities, biases, dysfunctions of educators often pose the greatest risk to the educational, physical and emotional safety of our children.
Do we bring our "baggage" to our jobs? I dare say that it is not just in the educational field, but probably exists in every profession at some level. I am particularly concerned in this writing that educators maintain the "practice" of being professional. It is incumbent upon us to remember that children deserve to see our best and be our best!
It's the "practice" of being professional!
