New Year-New Beginnings!
The 2010 new year has begun with an exciting career change for me!
I have been selected as the new Program Director for the Los Angeles Urban Teacher Residency program (LAUTR). This program recruits and enrolls highly qualified teacher candidates who are committed to teaching in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The focus is on a cohort of math and science candidates who will complete a clear credential and Master's Degree through a partnership with California State University at Los Angeles (CSULA). It includes a stipend and health benefits as well as an assignment with a Mentor teacher in an urban middle or senior high school.
Research tells us that good teaching, along with effective leadership, is the strongest correlate to high student achievement. Based on the medical model of residencies in preparing doctors, and upon the current successful teacher residency models across the nation (Boston, Chicago,Denver), the Los Angeles Urban Teacher Residency (LAUTR) will recruit highly talented people from diverse backgrounds to complete a 14-month residency.
Upon completion of the program, graduates will earn a California teaching credential within their chosen area(s) of secondary math or science, as well as a master's degree in education from CSULA.
If you would like more information, I encourage you to go to our website-www.lautr.org.
I look forward to an abundance of "thoughts" to share with you in this blog through the expanded horizon afforded me as a result of this new career opportunity!
The sky is the limit!
Happy New Year!
