Racism Has No Place
Marilyn Davenport, an Orange County Republican party official, has sort-of apologized for sending out a racist picture of President Obama depicting him as a chimp being held by his chimp parents: "I'm sorry if my email offended anyone. I simply found it amusing regarding the character of Obama and all the questions surrounding his origin of birth."
The email along with the picture included her own words:
"Now you know why no birth certificate"
This type of behavior is totally unacceptable! It is hateful, disrespectful and blatant racism toward our President and everyone else who shares his ancestry, culture or race.
This is a teachable moment for educators!
Be very careful that your own biases do not negatively influence how you educate children who don't look like you...who have a different race, culture, language, religion...
As effective educators, we must approach the task of working with students from the lens of ability, talent, individuality, intelligence, skills, abilities....and more!
Racism has no place!
