Twenty-two Rules
The Royal Wedding between William and Kate has been given much media attention.
I was struck with the newscaster who explained that the royal invitation was accompanied with twenty-two rules to follow when addressing the Queen. i.e. she is to be called Your Majesty, you are to bow or curtsy and so on.
I think that there should be twenty-two rules for all educators...
1. Tell children that they are capable
2. Encourage positive thoughts about a child's future
3. Never speak out of frustration or anger
4. Build lessons to facilitate critical thinking development
5. Dress professionally-you are a role model
6. Develop positive relationships with everyone on your campus
(Certificated and Classified)
7. Work with children only if you genuinely like children
8. Leave biases or prejudices away from the classroom
9. Reward, praise, encourage, compliment regularly
10. Have a life outside of your teaching profession
11. Learn all of your students' names quickly
12. Set high standards and expectations
13. Plan and organize engaging lessons
14. Believe the BEST about every student
15. Celebrate the talents, skills and strengths of your students
16. Allow for mistakes...both yours...and the students
17. Forgive...daily
18. Reach out to parents, family and community
19. Work collaboratively, not in a silo
20. Set clear boundaries and benchmarks
21. Realize that you are influencing our future
Golden Rule
22. Treat everyone like you want to be treated.
