"Mr." is a Title of Respect
There were a group of preschool children with their teachers waiting at the corner to cross the street. These little ones, between 3 and 4 years old, were a bundle of energy and chatter. All of a sudden, they all stopped talking and began to wave at a garbage truck that was at a stop sign, waiting for traffic to clear, for his turn.
The preschoolsers began to wave frantically and yelled out to the truck driver, while simuultaneously waving, "Hello, Mr. Garbage Man". He waved....they waved...he waved...they waved...it was amazing to see their excitement in that moment.
When it was time for the driver to make his turn, he pulled the cord on his horn and the preschool students screamed with glee at the loud sound of the truck's horn.
As educators, you must also put a "Mr." or "Mrs." next to the names of people who you need to show the utmost respect on a school's campus-the plant manager, librarian, textbook clerk, nurse, custodial staff, office manager, security, student store clerk, parking lot attendant....these people are vital to your success as a classroom teacher!
They can provide support and resources to make your teaching experience a wonderful one!
