An Unexpected Blessing!
My staff and I were scheduled to attend a retreat in Boston, MA.
I carefully packed my suitcase because I knew that the weather
was much colder than Los Angeles. Southern Californians are
so spoiled because we generally get great weather all year long.
It was 70 degrees when I left LA and it was going to be 40 degrees
when I got to Boston!
I jumped into the cab with a colleague and off we went to LAX.
Quite to my horror, I realized AFTER I got out of the cab that
I mistakenly left my heavy coat at home and it was too late to
go back. All I had was the sweatsuit jacket I was wearing.
Well, a colleague loaned me a heavy fur vest the first day. Thankfully,
Boston was "unseasonably warm" with a daytime high of 43 degrees. It
was still cold for a California girl, so I set off downtown in search
of a heavy coat.
The closest department store was Marshall's and to my delight, they
were having a sale on winter coats! To add to the surprise, I had
a Marshall's gift card in my wallet that I had never used. The coat
ended up being "free" because the gift card covered the entire cost
with a few dollars to spare!
My teachable moment, dear colleagues, is that you NEVER KNOW what
will happen in your day, especially when working with people...and
more so ...when you are working with young people!
Give your profession your very best...you never know...you may also
encounter AN UNEXPECTED BLESSING!
