Lottery Mania
The Lottery was over 600 million this past week. Grocery stores, convenience stores and liquor stores across the country had throngs of people waiting in line to purchase lottery tickets with the numbers each person was sure would turn them into instant millionaires! In fact, the lines were wrapped around the corner for stores that had tickets purchased by people who had previously won!
Well, the likelihood of winning is unlikely, but there were people who did win and I wish them a huge congratulations!
As educators and other related professionals, I couldn't help but wonder what schools would be like if people stood in long lines to:
* Visit their children in the classroom
* Attend events at schools
* Participate in councils, PTA's and committees
* Volunteer to work a few days or hours on a campus
* Distribute or supervise nutrition or lunch activities
* Supervise a dance or sporting event
* Attend Open House, Back to School Night or Parent Conference night
* Support recognition assemblies for students who are thriving in school
Let's work together to generate the same excitement for education as we observe
for the lottery.
Our children are a precious treasure!
