Independence Day
Happy 4th of July to my blogging community!
Today is Independence Day!
Wikipedia defines the 4th of July as:
Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the national day of the United States.
As educators, counselors, social workers and other personnel who deal with students across this nation, I would like to suggest an additional definition for Independence Day that we can all exercise every time we encounter students, their families and the community...
Providing a quality education, support, resources and guidance to live a life that demonstrates academic, mental, emotional and physical health; offering opportunities to achieve economic stability; supporting one's individual, familial, and community goals that will enrich their lives for generations.
Please enjoy all of the fun-filled activities associated with this holiday.
Remember that after the wadding pools, beach balls, barbecue pits and firecrackers are put away...the real work of academic, social and economic "independence" continues...
Happy 4th of July!
