The Storm is Here!
There is a hurricane, Sandy, that is rocking the East Coast. With any storm, there are usually signs that let people know that it is coming. Weather is predicted using various technologies by meterologists who give updated reports to people using the television, radio, internet and so on. It is also absolutely true in your work with students.
When there is a storm brewing in their lives, there are usually tell-tale signs that will cue an observant administrator, teacher, counselor, social worker, security guard, parent volunteer, nurse, or any certificated or classified person who is attentive to the signs. Pay attention, folks. When students are troubled about something, they are likely to want to talk about it. Even in the worse situations, like Columbine, these students communicated about their intentions before executing their devastating plan. Watch for the storm! Be aware of the temperament of your students and even other staff members for that matter. Look for the signs...they are always there....a storm may be brewing on the horizon.
